Solution
We designed Fairo, a mobile-first financial assistant from Raiffeisen Bank, built specifically for Ukrainian freelancers and sole proprietors. The app simplifies financial admin tasks by combining Invoicing, Bookkeeping, and Reporting into one seamless experience. The design turns complex accounting workflows into clear, guided flows that are intuitive even for users without financial expertise, empowering entrepreneurs to stay compliant and focus on growing their business.
Overview
As a UX/UI Designer, I contributed to the core feature design of the Fairo mobile app. My role focused on creating user-friendly interfaces for Invoicing, Bookkeeping, and Financial Reporting. The goal was to transform tasks that often feel overwhelming into manageable daily routines, without losing the accuracy and reliability expected from a banking product.
Goal
The project aimed to:
Provide freelancers with a mobile-first solution for financial admin
Combine invoicing, bookkeeping, and tax reporting in one app
Simplify workflows without losing professional reliability
Deliver a tool that feels friendly, modern, and empowering
Problem
Before Fairo, Ukrainian freelancers had no dedicated mobile tool to manage finances. Most relied on manual spreadsheets, outdated software, or fragmented processes. Professional accounting tools existed but were too complex for everyday use. The challenge was to design a solution that balances powerful functionality with approachability and ease of use.
Process
Research & Problem Definition
We started by mapping the financial workflows of freelancers and sole proprietors, identifying pain points in invoicing, expense tracking, and tax reporting. The insights showed that while users needed professional-level accuracy, they also demanded simplicity, guidance, and automation to replace tedious manual work.
Competitive Analysis
We analyzed accounting and invoicing apps in both local and international markets. Most were either too feature-heavy and intimidating, or too lightweight and limited. This gap defined our opportunity: create a professional yet approachable tool tailored to freelancers.
Design Approach
Our design direction focused on turning complexity into clarity while ensuring mobile-first usability.
Invoicing: fast creation, personal branding options, and real-time tracking of payment status
Bookkeeping: automatic categorization of expenses, minimal manual input, and clear visual dashboards
Reporting: clean layouts, smart grouping of data, and visual overviews of tax obligations and financial health
Consistency & Accessibility: unified design system, optimized for mobile use, with an emphasis on readability and trustworthiness aligned with banking standards
Reflection
Fairo became one of the first apps in Ukraine to give freelancers a comprehensive financial assistant in their pocket. The design proved that even complex domains like accounting can be made approachable and empowering through thoughtful UX. For me, this project was about transforming something stressful - taxes and finance - into a tool that feels like an ally in everyday business growth.
Our mission is to help freelancers enjoy the results of their work in the most efficient way possible.
